Laser Printing
A guide for learning about how to find great laser photo paper and other types of paper
Laser printing is an up and coming way of printing. As the personal computer becomes more and more of a household fixture, alongside the Kenwood mixer and the kettle, the laser printer is also gaining in popularity. More and more people are not content with simply using their computer for writing or browsing the Net. They want to print out the things that they write or to print copies of their favorite photographs (which they, of course, downloaded from their up-to-the-minute digital cameras).
The first laser printer was invented in 1969 by a researcher named Gary Starkweather, who was working for the Xerox company. However, laser printing as we know it, did not really come into existence until 1976, when IBM invented the 3800, a large but primitive printer used for producing invoices and mailing labels in high amounts. Although the first office laser printer was produced in 1981, laser printing only really became popular when home personal computers took off.
Today’s laser printers are less expensive and much lighter than the earlier models. This has made laser printing much more convenient and a realistic option for most people looking to buy a printer for their homes and for their own personal use.
Laser printing involves a certain amount of care for the printer, and there are also some safety tips that are well worth remembering. Firstly, one should never simply open up the printer and touch the parts unless you know what you are doing. This is because residual currents may still adhere to the inner parts of the printer, and the voltage may even be quite high. This makes the laser printer into a potential electrical risk. In the same way, you should never use the family vacuum cleaner to remove toner that has fallen from the printer because the tiny particles can produce static, and could even lead to a small explosion. Remembering these safety points can make your laser printing much easier and more secure.
If you are interested in laser printing, you should always keep your printer and its parts up to date. Change the toner cartridge whenever it is necessary – and preferably before you start running on empty, which is never good for the printer. You should also study its life expectancy chart, which many manufacturers will include with your printer in units of potential production. This might help you assess the condition of your printer as you use it.
Many people prefer laser printing because it is fairly convenient. The printers are quieter and easier to service. Just remember, however, that if you are laser printing, you should only use laser paper as after types of paper are not suitable. As non-laser paper could actually damage the printer, it is always extremely important to read the instructions carefully and make sure that you are using the right kind.
So make the most of your laser printer. You have no idea what modern technology will dream up next, so enjoy what you have already today.
